I Knew Something Was Wrong… But I Never Expected Cancer

Hello, my name is Rick, and this is my Story. Did I just hear that right? I have Cancer?

I’m using an AI person to do my talking, but the person you’re looking at is me. I’m a real live person, just like you, but I didn’t see the train coming until it hit me. I really don’t talk about this, because it’s deeply personal, and it makes me feel like somehow, I failed. But, like so many going through trials, situations come up in your life that you didn’t see. I knew something was off, but I didn’t know what it was. I didn’t have the same keen ability to look at situations or get involved in complex construction conversations. I have been a consultant in the construction industry for more than 35 years. Involved in 100’s of construction projects over that period. My yearly physical came up, and I didn’t think too much until the doctor asked me to come back to her office. She said that my blood work has some anomalies, and she wanted me to see another doctor for review.

So, Sue, my wife for 56 years and I went to the appointment. The doctor walked in said, “You Have Cancer.” It didn’t hit me at that moment, and I never thought I would hear those words.
