Charlotte Wood Middle School, Danville, California
It was 1991, and our company was framing the entire middle school. The Charlotte Wood Middle School was built out of Douglas Fir Lumber, Pressure Treated Plates, and different kinds of Plywood. I negotiated a contract with a lumber mill in Oregon to provide all the dimensional lumber for the project. I had lumber being delivered from their mill for months. GREAT PROJECT! Overview
1/2-in x 4-ft x 8-ft AC Sanded Douglas Fir Plywood Sheathing
Upgrade your project with the strength and smooth finish of AC Sanded Douglas Fir Plywood. With one “A” grade sanded face and a durable “C” grade back, this panel is designed for applications where both structure and appearance matter.
Premium Surface – Smooth sanded front face, ready for paint, stain, or clear finishes.
Strong & Durable – Douglas Fir delivers superior stiffness and holds fasteners tight.
Versatile Use – Ideal for cabinets, shelving, furniture, interior paneling, and countertop underlayment.
Reliable Sheathing – Can also be used for subfloors, wall, and roof sheathing when extra strength and a smooth face are needed.
Whether you’re finishing a DIY furniture piece or need a clean, solid panel for your next remodel, this plywood gives you professional-grade performance with a finish-ready surface.

This Plywood is on the higher end. Why?
You would want to use it in places where both strength and appearance matter.
Face Grade “A” = smooth, sanded, paint- or stain-ready surface with very few to no knots.
Back Grade “C” = allows some knots and repairs, since it’s usually the hidden side.
Douglas Fir = strong, stiff, and holds fasteners well.
👉 Common uses where this sheet makes sense:
Cabinet carcasses and shelving (strong and smooth surface for finishing).
Furniture building (desks, bookcases, workbenches).
Interior paneling or wainscoting (painted or stained for a finished look).
Subflooring under hardwood or tile (when you want extra stiffness and smoothness).
Countertop underlayment (for laminate or tile).
High-end roof or wall sheathing (if exposed briefly and then covered).
It’s basically too nice for rough outdoor structural work like fencing or shed walls — you’re paying for the sanded face. If you just need strength for hidden framing, a lower grade CDX sheathing would be more economical.
👉 In short: use AC sanded plywood when the surface will be seen or finished.
